At the forefront of the push for electrification is the need for efficient energy management through lightweighting components of the vehicle. Reducing the weight of components throughout the vehicle results in either reduced battery requirements for an equivalent range or an extended range with the same-sized battery. IAC’s LiteTec solutions offer mass savings for seat structures, battery enclosures and other structural components to lower greenhouse warming potential for an overall improved lifecycle analysis.
IAC's FiberFrame lightweight alternative provides equivalent structural integrity with more than 50 percent weight reduction over steel frames and more than 30 percent weight reduction over plastic frames using eco-friendly, raw and renewable material.
IAC’s proprietary CoreBack injection molding process for vehicle interior components adds a chemical foaming agent to the resin. Once activated, the foaming agent creates a stronger product up to 30 percent lighter than conventional injection molded components.
IAC’s Hybrid Molding combines compression molding and injection molding into a single process, eliminating secondary procedures. Through the use of select materials, hybrid molding can contribute to more renewable vehicle construction, as well as reduce mass up to 50 percent when compared to injection molding.
As the industry moves toward electric vehicles, the opportunity exists to reimagine aspects of the vehicle that are no longer necessary or that are left empty due to the removal of an internal combustion engine. For instance, with the removal of a conventional engine at the front of the vehicle and the placement of battery packs beneath or at the rear of the vehicle, the area beneath the hood of the vehicle then becomes an option for functional integrations. IAC has worked with OEMs to reimagine the vehicle to offer additional cargo space as well as improve functionality.
